The method involves compensating the injecting quantity variations caused by a conventional injector unit and an intensifier that is utilized to reinforce a common-rail-injection system. The system is operated without the intensifier. A set of injecting quantity measurements is accomplished at a set of test points, at which the intensifier is inactive. A two-dimensional correction characteristic diagram (400) that is determined from the measurements controls the system. Another set of measurements is accomplished at another set of test points, at which the intensifier is active. An independent claim is also included for a control device for operating a common-rail-injection system of a motor vehicle.
