The adjusting system for IC engine throttles or exhaust system valves comprises a drive gear (35) mounted on the shaft (45) of an electric motor (32), an intermediate gear (37) and a driven gear (40). Both the drive gear and the intermediate gear consist of two cogs (43, 44; 47, 48), the cogs in each gear having the same number of teeth (five for the drive gear and twenty-five for the intermediate gear) and being offset from each other by half the width of a tooth.
