The method involves transmitting optical signals between the transmitter (12) and receiver (20) of a WDM transmission system (11) in a transmission band via an optical waveguide (16). The optical signals are Raman-amplified with the use of a pump (38). The amplification profile of the Raman amplification is distorted in the transmission band. The distorted amplification profile is rectified to compensate for the distortion. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) Optical communication system; and (2) Installation method of the WDM transmission system with Raman amplification.
