The method involves controlling the operating parameter such as rotating speed of a drive unit, by a controller (1). The controller comprises a proportional part (5) and an integral part. The integral part is initialized based on the output variable of the proportional part, so that the sum of the output variables of the respective integral and proportional parts does not increase. An independent claim is also included for a device for an operation of a drive unit, comprising a controller.
