The present invention relates to a process for the expansion of the spot display area being of 2 - d - take pictures of an object area, in particular in medical applications. In the method, first 2 - d - or 3 - d - image data of a larger object area is provided, at least one further 2 - d - image recording (8) of a smaller object area is recorded, the inside of the larger object area, the first 2 - d - or 3 - d - image data with a projection geometry of the further 2 - d - image recording (8) is recorded and from the first 2 - d - or 3 - d - image data for an image data set an image (7) of the larger object area is generated, which for a combination with the further 2 - d - image recording (8) is suitable. In the image display (7) of the larger object area is at least temporarily a representation of the further 2 - d - image recording (8) is integrated, in that in the first image data set for the image display (7) of the larger object area is image data representing the smaller object area by means of image data of the further 2 - d - image recording (8) are replaced.
