Device for controlling and/or regulating internal combustion engine ignition has closing time determination time that can be varied depending on operating parameter(s) to determine closing time required to achieve desired primary current
The device (6) has an electronic controller for determining a closing time or angle based on which a primary current passes through the primary coil (2.1) of an ignition coil (2) for a defined charging period, following which a secondary current is induced in a secondary coil (2.2) and an ignition event is generated in an ignition plug. The duration of a determination time can be varied depending on at least one operating parameter to determine the closing time required to achieve the desired primary current.
