A method for modifying the surface of an ABS resin by using a photocatalyst, an ABS resin whose surface is modified by the method, and an electroless plating method by using the ABS resin are provided to improve the uniformity of etched surface and adhesive strength and to enhance environmental friendliness by using no strong acid. A method for modifying the surface of an ABS resin comprises the steps of dipping an ABS resin in a colloid solution where a titanium dioxide nanoparticle is suspended in sol state; and irradiating light to the dipped ABS resin to etch the surface of the ABS resin by a photocatalyst. Preferably the titanium dioxide nanoparticle in sol state has a particle size of 30 nm or less; the intensity of the light irradiated to the ABS resin is 3-60 mW/cm^2; and the light has a short wavelength of 400 nm or less.
