A process of synthesizing MgO nano-powder from granular magnesium material through microwave plasma torch is provided to produce MgO nano-powder through plasma chemical reaction instead of high temperature physical/chemical reaction by passing granular magnesium through the microwave plasma torch flame using air or oxygen. The process comprises: first step that transmits microwave generated from a magnetron(10) to a waveguide through typical circulator, orientation coupler and 3-stub tuner; second step that derives magnetic field in a discharge tube which vertically passes through the waveguide at a position apart from longitudinal end of the waveguide; third step that vortex gas is fed into the discharge tube; fourth step that forms 1 atm of plasma in the vortex and the magnetic field by an ignition device; fifth step that combines granular magnesium used for MgO nano-powder synthesis with oxidant gas by inducing the magnesium granules to the plasma and flash-melting and vaporizing the induced material; and sixth step that collects the synthesized MgO nano-powder in a collection container.
