The invention relates to a method for locating deformations in a work of civil engineering, characterized by the fact at least one geosynthetic (1) is applied inside or below said work, said geosynthetic being provided with a plurality of parallel optical fibers (2a - 2e) which can transmit signals, wherein the optical fibers comprise regularly spaced Bragg networks (3) which are divided up into series(4) of consecutive N1 networks corresponding to the same wavelength, wherein said series are divided up into identical sets each comprising consecutive N2 series corresponding to different wavelengths, and by the fact that, in at least two optical fibers, numbers N1 of networks of a series and numbers N2 of series (4) of a set (5) are determined in such a way that by measuring the differences between the wavelengths of the incident light sent in each of the optical fibers and the wavelengths of the light reflected by the Bragg networks make it possible to locate the deformations undergone by the work and to measure the elongations of the optical fibers at the places of said deformations. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
