Machine for the application of hygienic protection elements for beverage cans and the like and procedure for the application of a hygienic protection material with said machine. The machine comprises an advance track, a die press that acts on the upper part of the cans by applying a hygienic protective material arranged between the cans and said press, and means for actuating the press. The press acts simultaneously on a group of several cans by individually applying the protective material that advances from a feed roller and whose unused part is wound, once applied, on a collection roller. The press drive means comprise a synchronized device that drives it towards the top of the cans at a rate adapted to the speed of advance of the track and the speed of rotation of the feed and catch rollers. The press has several bodies with an active profile provided with an elastic flange with cutting areas incorporating a tear-off blade of the protective material.
