The device comprises an electrical circuit with a means for making the barnacles resonate. A device for preventing the growth of organisms on surfaces of a body located at or below a water line, e.g. on a ship, comprises an electrical circuit containing a means for making the organisms resonate. An independent claim is also included for a method of use for this device, which involves making the organisms vibrate at a knocking frequency approximately equal to the intrinsic frequency.
