PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a method capable of surely and easily removing smut, which is generated and deposited at a welding part during welding of aluminum and an aluminum alloy without using a mechanical or chemical removal method.;SOLUTION: A nonflammable liquid 7 is sprayed to weld beads 3 and a heat affected part on the surface of a material to be welded by the time when a prescribed time elapses from the finishing time of the welding. It is made into contact with the smut generated and deposited at the welding part. An inactive gas or a liquid composed of an inactive compound instead of the nonflammable liquid 7 is sprayed. An arc welding device, which has an arc welding part for arc welding the material to be welded and a liquid spraying part 6 for spraying the liquid to the weld beads 3 and the heat affected part on the surface of the material to be welded, is used as the arc welding device for performing such a method.
