Using this compound of formula I as a starting material, a quaternary salt compound of formula III (L1 and L2 are each methine; V1 is H or a monovalent substituent; Z1 is an atomic group necessary for forming a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring; p1 is 0 or 1; M1 is a charge-equilibrium counterion; m1 is 0-10). Further, using a compound of formula III as starting material, a methine compound of formula TV (Q is methine or polymethine) is obtained.
