PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a tin-free steel excellent in corrosion-resistance and furthermore good in weldability, on the surface of a steel sheet, by forming a metallic chromium layer contg. amorphous ones, preferably composed of amorphous ones completely at specified coating weight and, on the surface of the layer, forming a chromium-hydrated oxide layer at specified coating weight. ;SOLUTION: On the surface of a steel sheet, a metallic chromium layer contg. amorphous ones, preferably composed of amorphous ones totally is formed, and furthermore, on the surface of the layer, a chromium-hydrated oxide layer is formed. The amorphous metallic chromium layer is small in pinholes and is excellent in corrosion resistance, and its coating weight is preferably regulated to 30 to 200 mg/m2 per side. The metallic chromium layer contains trivalent chromium ions and formic acid anions as a complexing agent, furthermore contains polyethylene glycol according to necessary and is formed preferably by a plating bath of pH1.0 to 2.0. On the surface of the metallic chromium, a chromium-hydrated oxide layer is formed by 3 to 25 mg/m2 coating weight per side expressed in terms of metallic chromium to reinforce the corrosion resistance of the metallic chromium layer without checking the weldability.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
