PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seismically retrofitting structure which can stand an earthquake accompanied by intense heave and rotational force, and is applicable to a large-scale wooden construction such as a main hole at a Buddhist temple or a Shinto shrine, and to provide a method of seismically retrofitting the existing wooden construction.;SOLUTION: The wooden construction is constructed by installing vertical columns 3 on foundation stones 2, and connecting horizontal structural members 4 etc. to the vertical columns, respectively. The seismically retrofitting structure for the wooden construction is comprised of a mat foundation 9 and a seismically-resisting frame structure 10. The mat foundation 9 is laid on the ground 1 under the construction, and includes a corner vertical column 3A out of the vertical columns, which is located at a corner portion of the construction, and adjoining vertical columns 3B adjoining to the corner vertical column, which are located at locations extending from the corner vertical column in two wall directions orthogonal to each other. The seismically-resisting frame structure 10 is arranged between the corner vertical column and each adjoining vertical column, and has a lower end thereof connected to the mat foundation and an upper end thereof connected to the horizontal structural member of the wooden construction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
