PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the same level of recognition performance, while avoiding deterioration of performance until the determination of a recognition result, by comparing the recognition results in the character end positions that can be assumed, and increase in a utilization memory amount.;SOLUTION: This online hand-written character recognition device/method is provided with a recognition object stroke opening means for opening a recognition object by a plurality of opening rules from a stroke sequence input with no frame, a hand-written character recognition means for recognizing the opened stroke by the recognition objective stroke opening means, a best opening stroke determination means for determining the best opening stroke, constituting a recognition result that is considered most favorable, from the results recognized by the written character recognition means, and a following stroke written character recognition means for executing recognition, by applying the opening rule of the opening stroke determined by the best opening stroke determination means, to a following stroke.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
