PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and easily measure the intensity of odor in soil, ground water or the like that has been contaminated by petroleum.;SOLUTION: In this calibration curve generating method of hydrocarbon group component content and sensory intensity of smell in a plurality of petroleum-based hydrocarbon compositions, the sensory intensity of the smell and content of each fraction of six fractions of the boiling range i (i is an integer of 1-6) divided by gas chromatography are measured, and calibration curve is generated, based on the measured value Y of the sensory intensity of smell and the counted value of logarithm shown by Equation (1): LogXi (where Xi=CiVPi/MWi).
