The method involves expressing the distance and radial speed of targets differently based on beat frequencies to define four ambiguity zones. A choice between the zones is made by comparing the frequencies to determine the sign of Doppler frequency. The average of the frequencies is compared with the total amplitude of modulation. A slope ramp is transmitted if the average is lesser than the total amplitude of modulation. An independent claim is also included for a laser ranging device.
