The illuminator has a flat, semi-transparent reflector (B 0) reflecting a microwave emitted by a horn type primary source (S). A flat reflector (R) rotates polarization of the reflected wave and reflects the wave to the reflector (B 0). The wave traverses the reflector (B 0) and is applied to an electronic scanning device (B) which scans in a polarization plane of the received wave and in a plane normal to the polarization plane. An independent claim is also included for an electronically-scanned antenna comprising an illuminator.
