Auto focusing apparatus for camera, has focus calculating unit calculating focus values, and auto focus digital signal processor detecting maximal focus value while moving focus lens
The apparatus has a compression module to convert frame into blocks, to perform discrete Cosine transform (DCT) on each block, and to output DCT coefficient values. A focus calculating unit (314) receives the DCT coefficient values, and calculates focus values by integrating preset degrees of quantized DCT coefficient values. An auto focus digital signal processor (315) detects a maximal focus value while moving a focus lens. An independent claim is also included for a method for automatically adjusting a focus of a camera.
