P This high internal phase water-in-oil emulsion (HIPE) whose continuous external oil phase comprises at least one monomer having ethylenic unsaturation and at least one emulsifier which is soluble in the oil phase, is characterized by the fact that the aqueous phase contains, in solution, at least partially neutralized acrylic acid, and does not contain any mineral salt, the said emulsifier or emulsifiers being chosen from macromolecular emulsifiers with or without molecular emulsifiers, and, in the case where the acrylic acid is partially neutralized and is present at a concentration of less than 20% by weight in the aqueous phase, also among the molecular emulsifiers. / P
