An optical device (d) is dedicated to the transformation of the mode of propagation of the optical signals. This device comprises at least a first mode converter (3) is supplied with signals propagating in a first mode guided and delivering the signals in a multimode fiber (4) in part on the first guided mode and in part on a second guided mode of order greater than the first. The multimode optical fiber (4) comprises at least the first means of passive filtering (r) responsible for converting the first mode guided by at least one embodiment of the sheath 5 so as to prevent or limit the propagation of the signals on this first guided mode, while allowing the propagation of the signals with the second mode guided in the multimode optical fiber (4).
