Device for ordering food and drinks in a restaurant comprises a transmitter that is operated by a diner with a letter and or number keypad as well as a central unit linked to the transmitter via a data transfer path. The keys of the keypad can have fixed or variable values. Data transfer can be via wireless technologies, e.g. Bluetooth or WLAN, or cable technology, e.g. LAN.
