The device has a navigation system provided for determining orientation of an ultrasonic probe (1) in space. A data processing mechanism (9) processes data supplied by the probe with the navigation system. A displaying device delivers image signals corresponding to the data from the mechanism. The mechanism is programmed such that it changes the orientation of the image on the device (10) depending upon the orientation of the probe.
