The method involves passing a robotic vacuum cleaner (10) into a compensation mode if the vacuum cleaner is moved beyond a compensation reference during cleaning. The compensation reference is used to determine a period for compensation of a gyroscopic sensor. Compensation is applied to an output value of the sensor with the help of an upper camera (42). An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling a robotic vacuum cleaner.
