The method involves recording primary sided and/or secondary sided coil voltage and/or the secondary sided coil current. Gas dynamic effects occurring in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine is identified in dependence of a parameter at the existence of gas dynamic effects, where the parameters correlate with the primary sided and/or secondary sided coil voltage and the secondary sided coil current. An independent claim is also included for a device for the identification of a gas dynamic effects occurring in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine working in shift operation.
