The method involves providing a wood working machine with two work piece tables (2, 3) that are positionable and movable below a stationary portal (1). Clamping devices are provided for fixing work pieces in flat lying arrangement. The work pieces are successively guided across the work piece tables for processing the workpieces in the processing sequence. The work pieces are automatically moved between the work piece tables. An independent claim is also included for a wood working machine for processing a plate shaped work piece.
