The method involves changing a camera focus width between two picture recordings for detecting a condensation to choose the width such that a camera focus is found in an immediate closeness to the surface. The width is concluded on the condensation on the surface when an object is identified in a picture data set and when the object has high picture sharpness than in the set which is obtained with another focus width of the camera. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting a condensation on a surface of a windscreen of a motor vehicle.
