Resistance pressure welding of crossing wires (1a, 1b), especially ribbed building wires, involving pressing the wires together with a first force F1, application of an electrical voltage to a first magnitude to melt the wires at the contact point (2) with formation of a uniform contact surface, with increase in the contact area. The pressure and voltage are then increased to a second magnitude F2 to weld the wires together at the contact points. An independent claim is included for a device for resistane pressure welding of crossed wires as described above.
