The method involves serially transferring a busy-free state of an axle count system to another axle count system that represents track free reporting sections (3a, 3b) by a condition telegram. The interruption of transmission of a telegram condition for duration is tolerated. The duration is proportional to the shortest duration of the reporting sections and inversely proportional to a maximum distance speed. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing the method.
