Medical X-ray device has an X-ray source and a planar detector that comprises a matrix of detector elements each of which generates an output electrical signal. The source (2) and detector (5) are linked by marker elements (3, 6), with a navigation system provided to determine the position and orientation of the marker elements and thereby to determine the position in space of source and detector.
