An image forming apparatus containing a unit of decelerating an exit roller and a method of decelerating the exit roller are provided to improve the uniformity of the sheet loading regardless of the print condition of one surface and both surfaces of the sheets by installing the sheet contact arm. An image forming apparatus comprises a print unit printing the image at a sheet(S); at least one exit roller(183,184) discharging the printed sheet according to the badge; a sensing unit arranged at the outlet side of the print unit to sense the rear end of the sheet; and an exit roller decelerating unit(600) reducing the speed of the exit roller after a predetermined lag time when rear ends(410,420) of the sheet are detected by the sensing unit. The lag time is set as each different value when printing the single surface and both surfaces. The sensing unit has a sheet contact arm(210) contacted at the sheet to rotate and a sensor(290) sensing whether or not the sheet contact arm is recovered to the reference position after the sheet contact arm is separated from the rear end of the sheet.
