PURPOSE: A method for determining chemical oxygen demand(COD) using potassium permanganate is provided, wherein reagents used in this method are mixed in advance to determine COD easily and correctly. CONSTITUTION: The method for determining chemical oxygen demand(COD) using potassium permanganate comprises the steps of: dissolving sulfate of mercury and sulfate of silver in sulfuric acid to prepare a sulfuric acid solution; inserting the sulfuric acid solution into an instant glass bottle; inserting a potassium permanganate solution and a testing sample into the glass bottle; and heating the glass bottle and measuring the optical density, wherein sulfuric acid is further added in the amount of 70 to 120 g per 1 liter of a mixture of sulfuric acid, potassium permanganate solution, water and the testing sample; the volume ratio of potassium permanganate to sulfuric acid is 1:1,100 to 1:2,450; sulfate of mercury added is in the amount of 1.2 to 2.7 wt.%; and sulfate of silver added is in the amount of 0.9 to 1.4 wt.%.
