Where necessary, a closed-off motor room can be set up temporarily in the hoist shaft (14) for access to the drive motor (26) and/or the control cabinet (24). Operation of the hoist cage (16) in the sections of the shaft beneath or above the temporary motor room is unaffected. Preferably the temporary motor room can be set up in the area at the top of the shaft and the uppermost stopping point or in the area of the shaft pit and a lowermost stopping point.
