A planning reproduction of a standard object is clarified and a space-wise position of a picture-forming area in the planning reproduction is defined. A basic field magnet (1) generates a time-constant, intense magnetic field for polarisation of the core object in the investigation area, such as a part of a human body to be investigated. The high homogeneity of the basic magnetic field necessary for core magnetic resonance measurement is defined in a spherical measurement volume (M) in which the part of the human body is introduced. Time-variable influences are eliminated by positioning coils (2) operated by a positioning feed (15). A cylindrical gradient coil system (3) is built into the basic field magnet and comprises three sub-windings, each of which is provided with current via an amplifier (14) for generation of a linear gradient field in the respective directions of a carthesic coordinate system. Each amplifier has a digital-analogue converter (DAC) operated by a sequence control unit (18) fo the time-controlled generation of gradient pulses. Within the gradient field system is a high frequency antenna (4) which emits pulses to excite the core of the object being investigated.
