PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biological denitrification treatment apparatus capable of efficiently performing the anaerobic digestion treatment of floating matter, BOD, nitrogen and sludge of nitrogen-containing organic wastewater without requiring excessive chemicals. SOLUTION: The biological denitrification treatment apparatus consists of a first anaerobic contact digestion tank 10 wherein a plurality of lump or aggregate-shaped anaerobic contact filter media having an expanse in a lateral direction are arranged laterally at a constant interval and arranged in a multistage fashion so as to be partially overlapped up and down at a constant interval, a second anaerobic contact digestion tank 20 in which arbitrary contact filter media are arranged, a denitrification reaction tank 30, a nitrification reaction tank 40 and an aerobic oxidation treatment tank 50 having an aerobic contact filter bed arranged therein and discharging treated water. A means for returning sludge generated in the second anaerobic contact digestion tank 20, the nitrification reaction tank 40 and the aerobic oxidation treatment tank 50 is provided to the first anaerobic contact digestion tank 10 to discharge excess sludge 15 in the first anaerobic contact digestion tank 10.
