PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain sufficient infrared absorbing characteristics without being affected by the particle size of an infrared absorbing material by constituting a data medium of at least an infrared absorbing layer and an infrared reflecting pattern layer and forming the infrared reflecting pattern layer from an infrared cutting-off layer, an infrared reflecting layer or both of them. SOLUTION: The part applied to an infrared reflecting pattern layer among infrared rays irradiating an infrared data medium 1 from above is reflected and the part applied to an infrared absorbing layer having no infrared reflecting pattern layer 4 among them is absorbed. Data having patterns can be read by the contrast of reflection and absorption. In order to make the reading of the patterns formed by the infrared ray reflecting pattern layer by the naked eye difficult, the materials of a base material 2, the infrared absorbing layer 3 and the infrared reflecting pattern layer 4 are selected so that the colors of the upper surface and background of the pattern layer become a substantially same color to make it possible to make the pattern layer invisible.
