PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To incorporate a blade cutting mechanism section in an already existing structural space of a sewing machine, and perform a process wherein a fabric edge is cut, and a hem- darning is performed by a main sewing, and a process wherein the main sewing is performed without cutting the fabric edge by easily switching the two processes.;SOLUTION: An upper cutting blade 72 which vertically moves, and a cutting blade-driving section 74 are provided. In this case, the cutting blade-driving section 74 drives the upper cutting blade 72 while being slidably supported by a machine frame in order to cut the fabric edge with the upper cutting blade 72 and a lower cutting blade 73 which is cooperated with the upper cutting blade 72. Then, this sewing machine is equipped with a clutch 75. In this case, the clutch 75 transmits power to the upper cutting blade 72 when the cutting blade- driving section 74 operates the cutting blades, and shuts off the power to the upper cutting blade 72 by displacing the cutting blade-driving section 74 to a retracting location when the cutting blades are not operated. The lower cutting blade 73 is fixed to a sewing machine bed surface at a location to cooperate with the upper cutting blade 72. Also, the lower cutting blade 73 is equipped with a cutting waste-receiving recess 61 which prevents cutting waste, generated when the fabric edge is cut by the upper cutting blade 72 and the lower cutting blade 73, from dropping to the lower section of the sewing machine bed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
