PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain stable sensitivity without adjusting a wave length plate.;SOLUTION: Light is emitted from a light source 101, an optical sensor 103 causes polarization variation according to electric field variation in the light, and light detectors 106 and 107 detect the light polarized through a polarization controller 104 and a polarization beam splitter 105. A differential amplifier 108 differentially amplifies the outputs of the light detectors 106 and 107, and a spectrum analyzer 109 detects the electric field from the output of the differential amplifier 108. In a control signal processing section 110, longitudinal tension is applied to a part of an optical polarization retain fiber 111 by a tension applying means 114 so as to maximize the intensity of the output signal of the spectrum analyzer 109, thereby adjusting the phase difference between light having an electric field component parallel to a first shaft in the optical polarization retain fiber 111 and light having an electric field component parallel to a slow shaft.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
