PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost coating film for optical compensation having a characteristic; [(nx+ny)/2-nz]×d≥100, without requiring a troublesome filming process, and to provide an optical element having the characteristic without requiring a labor such as film sticking.;SOLUTION: The coating film for optical compensation includes a cellulose derivative which satisfies the following relation; [(nx+ny)/2-nz]×d≥100, where nx is the maximum refractive index and ny is the minimum refractive index among in-plane refractive indexes, nz is refractive index in the thickness direction and d is film thickness (nm) when being thinned.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
