PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To utilize symmetry of components to support efficient design activities and product data management activities in design and design data management of products including bilaterally symmetrical components.;SOLUTION: A product data management system includes; a means S1 which accepts registration of design information including first identification information for identifying a design object and shape information describing a shape of the design object; a means S2 which accepts setting of second identification information for identifying a design object having a shape symmetrical to the shape described by the shape information with respect to a prescribed reference face; a means S3 which stores information for associating the second identification information with the first identification information and stores information indicating that the shape of the design object identified by the second identification information is symmetrical to the shape of the design object identified by the first identification information with respect to the reference face; and a symmetrical shape generation means S4 which generates symmetrical shape information describing the shape symmetrical to the shape of the design object identified by the first identification information with respect to the reference face.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
