Disclosed is a method for determining the impact of a component failure on the services supported by that component. The method comprises the steps of receiving a data feed from a processing node that contains data about the component being monitored, including the identity and status of the component. The next step is to determine the services supported by the component and then identifying the temporal activity of the services, thus determining the impact of the system status on the services. The temporal activity may be found by looking up a calendar function, may form rules for a rules engine for determining the relationship between the service and the component. The step of determining the relationship between the service and the component may include the relationships between services that are dependent on the service supported by the component. The status of the component may be failed or active. When a component has failed the method may determine the time needed to rectify the fault and the time in which the component must start to be recovered in order to support the scheduled service. The results of determining the repair times may be presented as a list.
