A single-channel phase-modulated RF signal s(t) is predistorted in combiner 22 by polynomial functions produced in polynomial generator 20. The polynomial generator 20 operates on the input signal amplitude or power as determined by envelope detector 18. The combiner may be either a vector modulator, or an attenuator and a phase shifter. In a low-cost arrangement, only a phase shifter is provided, wherein only one polynomial generator is required (figure 3). The input signal may have a low peak to average ratio, thereby allowing power-efficient use of an amplifier 12 operating close to saturation. The input signal may be a GSM or EDGE signal. The Adjacent Channel Power (ACP) and the Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) are reduced.
