The device has a support structure (40) to receive a body shell (2) of a motor vehicle. The structure has support surfaces (48) projecting above two axial ends of an inner cross unit (44). The surfaces receive a rear part of the shell at the right of reinforced support zones of a jack. Front part of the shell rests on other support surfaces formed by mountings (49) projecting above two axial ends of another inner cross unit (45).
