The device has an air intake duct (4) communicating with a combustion chamber of a cylinder through an inlet port that is closed by an inlet valve (5). A fuel injector (7) opens into the duct to direct fuel spray (8, 8`) towards the port. A secondary air intake duct (9) opens into the duct (4), and is oriented to direct air jet in the direction of the fuel spray. The air jet flow is adjusted by a solenoid valve (11).
