The method involves measuring tail shakes created on the skeleton (17) of a helicopter (2), using three sensors (18-20) mounted at different locations on the skeleton. An angle variation of a horizontal tail unit (39) susceptible to generate tail shake opposition forces (TZ) is determined from the measurement. The angle variation is applied to a control system (10) of the angle of the horizontal tail unit, to eliminate the tail shakes. An independent claim is also included for a device for reducing the tail shakes created on the skeleton of the helicopter.
