The method involves predefining a set point value for the magnitude of output of a vehicle driving unit (1). Thrust of the driving unit is released when the set point value of the magnitude passes below a characteristic thrust value. The characteristic value is a threshold that is chosen below a selected real minimum value attained by the output magnitude when the thrust is removed.
