The process involves constructing a default sub-address for a telephone terminal (201) and connecting the terminal to a short message service (SMS) server (14). The terminal transmits a message to the server upon detecting that another terminal parallel to the former terminal takes a previous line. Another sub-address is attributed to the former terminal after the detection upon receiving the message from the server. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a fixed telephone terminal to transmit or receive short message service messages (b) a short message service messages server for fixed telephones.
