The system has an exhaust gas recirculation circuit (28) with a channel (44) and a valve (46) controlled by a central computer (42). The channel (44) and the valve (46) recover a part of exhaust gas from an engine and inject the recovered gas in a supply conduit (22) of a cylinder (C) of the engine. A channel (48) is supplied with fresh air and has a valve (50) emerging in a supply conduit (20) of the cylinder to supply the air. An independent claim is also included for an exhaust gas recirculation method for internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
