Electronically controllable external fixation for automated treatment of bone fracture points has a program controlled drive unit with measurement means for automated variation of the distance of the fastening elements relative to each other and for adjustment of tensile and compressive forces. The measurement means comprise an axially loaded force sensor (14) for continuous measurement of the force at the fracture point (2). Based on the measurement, fastening elements are positioned at a position such that there is an optimum force of between 0 and 200 N at the fracture point.
